Dov Charney, American Apparel CEO, Fired By Board Over Alleged Misconduct

Dov Charney was fired by American Apparel this week after a long run of the CEO’s alleged bad behavior, not to mention plummeting stock prices.

The former CEO has made headlines both for championing of U.S. manufacturing and support of immigrant workers, but he’s also gained notoriety.

His company’s extremely sexual ads featuring young women are a non-stop source of controversy, as are several lawsuits he’s attracted for sexual harassment.

Charney, 45, was unanimously fired Wednesday night because of an “ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct,” according to a statement from the company.

The bottom line had plenty to do with it. Boards will put up with an enormous amount when there’s results, which for a long time he produced. Not recently.

American Apparel shares are down from an all-time high of about $27 in July of 2007 to about 68 cents Thursday. It has lost half its value this year alone.

The company, founded on Charney’s love for a plain T-shirt, hasn’t done enough to evolve beyond basics, while adding more liabilities by the month.

American Apparel Upskirt

Classy marketing right here by American Apparel. That’s a nice looking piece of … fabric.

Former American Apparel employee Kimbra Lo filed a California Superior Court lawsuit accusing him of sexually assaulting her in 2010 at his home.

Charney appeared in the doorway of the Los Angeles home “wearing only a towel,” then grabbed Lo “and violently kissed her,” the lawsuit charged.

She believed she was arriving for an interview. When she protested and started to leave, Charney apologized and said they’d “just talk about business.”

Instead, he led Lo into his bedroom and “forced her to perform sexual acts,” becoming “more aggressive and violent” when she made any effort to resist.

Three other female employees who are plaintiffs in the case separately alleged they were required to sign purported arbitration agreements when hired.

The agreements were designed to “keep employees from disclosing unlawful conduct” by executives, as well as force the women “into an unfair forum.”

Paula Deen: Fired By Food Network Following Lawsuit, Racial Slurs

Paula Deen may have issued an apology for using racial slurs in both her Savannah, Ga., restaurants and also ever in her entire life, but that wasn’t enough for Food Network.

Probably because the apology was terrible, but hey, she tried??

Earlier today it was announced that Food Network dropped the butter-loving Southern Belle known for sending love and “best dishes” to her viewers.

Deen’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of this month.

Deen

Deen, who made her mark on the Food Network with her sugary, fat-saturated foods, has faced quite a rocky couple of years, to say the least.

First she announced that she had been diagnosed with and battled diabetes and received backlash from critics for not modifying her unhealthy recipes.

She went on to slim down with the South Beach diet before being slapped with a lawsuit regarding allegations of sexual harassment in her restaurants by G.M. Lisa Jackson.

While Deen denies the sexual harassment, she doesn’t deny using racial slurs, and that, no doubt coupled with her skipped Today Show appearance this morning, landed her in hot water.

All of this has left her image and her career in the slop trough, and it was all too much for Food Network, with which she will no longer be associated.

It’s going to take more than a pan of brownies to apologize for this one. She’ll be serving up casseroles to everyone else while she eats Humble Pie.

It’s a good thing she knows a thing or two about comfort food recipes, right?

Amanda Bynes Alleges Sexual Harassment Against Arresting Police Officer

Just when you thought the Amanda Bynes arrest case could not get any stranger…

Two days after getting booked on charges of disorderly conduct because she allegedly tossed a bong out a window, Bynes has come out and denied all charges, adding a new twist to the saga.

Amanda Bynes Selfie Pic

“I was sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last which is who then arrested me,” the very troubled star Tweeted yesterday, expounding:

“He lied and said I threw a bong out the window when I opened the window for fresh air. Hilarious. He slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal. I then called the cops on him. He handcuffed me, which I resisted, quite unlike any of the reports stated.

“Then I was sent to a mental hospital. Offensive. I kept asking for my lawyer but they wouldn’t let me.”

Bynes appeared in court Friday (wearing a wig) and was released on her own recognizance. She is expected back for a hearing in July.

Which means she has plenty of time to take more selfies and Tweet her own version of events.

“The cops were creepy,” added the star yesterday. “The cop sexually harassed me. They found no pot on me or bong outside my window. That’s why the judge let me go. Don’t believe any reports.”

This is the second time Bynes has taken to Twitter to plead her case.

In her initial self-defense, Amanda wrote that she only smokes tobacco, does not own a bong and need “to get another nose job after seeing [her] mugshot!”

What do you think? Do you believe Bynes was set up by the police?

AMANDA BYNES Claiming Police Sexually Harassed Her

Amanda Bynes Leaves The Court House

Amanda Bynes is NOT laying low after her recent court appearance following her arrest on Thursday night. The retired actress took to twitter to explain her side of the story. Brace yourself: as you can imagine, it’s… surprising.

Don’t believe the reports about me being arrested. It’s all lies. I was sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last which is who then arrested me. He lied and said I threw a bong out the window when I opened the window for fresh air. Hilarious. He slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal. I then called the cops on him. He handcuffed me, which I resisted, quite unlike any of the reports stated. Then I was sent to a mental hospital. Offensive. I kept asking for my lawyer but they wouldn’t let me. The cops were creepy. The cop sexually harassed me, they found no pot on me or bong outside my window. That’s why the judge let me go. Don’t believe any reports.

Oh goodness. I hope someone is able to get this girl HELP. hopefully someone around her is trying to take advantage of this situation to force Amanda to get some treatment, at the very least. I just feel so badly for her.

Melissa Gilbert is engaged to Timothy Busfield from Thirtysomething

I know no one cares about Melissa Gilbert’s engagement, but I do – sort of. After Melissa appeared on Dancing With The Stars last year looking noticeably altered (and after her somewhat juicy tell-all memoir) she started attracting tabloid attention, and Melissa’s life was interesting! It’s just that it was Melissa Gilbert, so the stories didn’t get much mileage.

Last year, Melissa was dating a French dude was was only out for her fame and money, according to the Enquirer. The Enquirer ran several stories about Melissa, 48, and her 42 year-old lover, a vintage car salesman whom she met in late 2011 and dated until around November of last year. The gist was that the guy was using Melissa for her money and fame, and dumped her when he figured out she wasn’t as rich as he assumed. I believe this was Melissa’s first big romance following her split with second husband Bruce Boxleitner, in March, 2011. The thing is, Melissa just split with the French guy in November, and now she’s engaged to someone else a couple of months later. Melissa’s new guy is a familiar face to me, he’s Timothy Busfield from “Thirtysomething” and “The West Wing.” Here’s more:

Little House on the Prairie meets thirtysomething . . . for love! Melissa Gilbert is engaged to actor Timothy Busfield, a rep for Gilbert, 48, tells Us Weekly exclusively. It will be the third marriage for both. A mother of two, Dancing with the Stars alum Gilbert’s previous husbands are Bo Brinkman (they divorced in 1992) and Bruce Boxleitner (their split was finalized in 2011). A father of three, West Wing star Busfield, 55, has been married to Radha Delmarter and Jenny Meriwin.

“They got engaged over the holidays,” a source tells Us of the surprise couple. What brought the TV veterans together in the first place? “They’ve known each other for quite some time, as their paths have crossed off-and-on over the past 20 years.”

The spouses-to-be celebrated their engagement on the evening of Monday Jan. 28 at Beverly Hills eatery Mr. Chow. Gilbert, who became a child star as Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie in the 70s and 80s, admitted last year — during her stint on DWTS — that her split from second husband Boxleitner after 16 years together was a challenge.

[From US Weekly]

Is this a case of “when you know you know” or just a rebound? Time will tell I guess.

I went to google Timothy Busfield, and one of the suggested search phrases was “Timothy Busfield Scandal,” so of course I had to find out what it was. In 1994, at the age of 36, Busfield was sued in a civil case for sexual harassment against a 17 year-old girl. The girl was an extra on a movie set, and Busfield allegedly invited her to his trailer, plied her with alcohol, fondled her and attempted to have sex. She turned him down and told the production company, which had her fired. Two other women came out publicly to say that he had harassed them with wildly inappropriate come-ons. It sounded similar to the David Boreanaz scandal to me, except it involved someone underage. I don’t know what else to say except that for Melissa Gilbert’s sake I hope this guy has changed. They sure hooked up fast. I mean they may have been friends over the years or something, but she’s been with him less than three months.

Update: I was unable to find any information on how the lawsuit against Busfield was concluded. Also, he was accused just last summer of sexual assault, for groping a woman while on a date with her at a movie theater. Prosecutors rejected the criminal case for lack of evidence.

Olivia Wilde discusses auditions, Hollywood sexism & double standards

Here are some new photos of loved-up couple Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde at last night’s gala at The American Museum of Natural History in NYC. Olivia’s gown is Dolce & Gabbana – it’s pretty, maybe a little bit too fussy, but it’s a nice gala and it’s appropriate. I think this is the first time Jason and Olivia have walked a red carpet together and posed for photos for all of the press. It’s nice. They’ve been dating….? About a year I think. They began in late 2011/early 2012. So they waited a while until they did the whole “we’re a couple” thing on a red carpet. And now all I can think about is how they’ll get married and have babies. It’s certainly beginning to look like that, right? Which comes first – an engagement ring or a pregnancy announcement? We know that Olivia thinks the sex is better with Jason than with her ex-husband, so she probably wants to lock that sh-t down.

Meanwhile, Olivia recently told a story about how young actresses dress for their auditions. I don’t really understand why this is shocking or breaking news or anything – here’s Olivia’s story:

“I was an assistant — a terrible assistant — for the world’s greatest casting director, a woman named Mali Finn, who was the most powerful casting director in Hollywood. I had just come from school, and I was a little feminist and she was too. I remember an actress coming in wearing a too-short dress. And after she left, Mali said, ‘Why was she wearing that dress? She’s a joke, I’m not meeting with her ever again.’ And this girl was never heard from again.

Then a few days later, I was going for an audition and I was wearing this huge cashmere turtleneck and pants, thinking I looked very ‘executive.’ As I was walking out of the office, Mali said, ‘Olivia, what are you wearing? I said I was going to a meeting, and she said, ‘Oh! You can’t wear that! You have to wear something tight and sexy.’

I was so confused, because I had just learned this lesson of this actress who wore the short skirt and now her career is over. So she said, ‘You’re going to meet a male executive. You have to learn this game, you have to learn when to use sexuality and beauty and appearance in general, and when it’s inappropriate. That was my first kind of dunk into the world of Hollywood. It gives you this idea of the contradiction that exists, really in all fields.”

[From Buzzfeed]

Call me a pragmatic cynic, but I feel like this is just the way Hollywood works? Male Hollywood executives often hire actresses based solely on the “Would you f—k her? Is she f—kable?” question, and actresses dress accordingly. But! There are a lot of female casting directors out there who (I believe, perhaps naively) are actually looking for the right actor or actress for the part. As for the idea that this kind of sexism exists in other industries… I don’t know. I’ve heard anecdotal evidence that many men don’t want to hire “the sexy girl” or “the girl who dresses provocatively” because… you know, they don’t want to hire a lawsuit waiting to happen. But don’t ask me… CB makes me wear low-cut blouses and call her “The Mistress”. SEXIST!

Hillary Clinton Photo Op Interrupted By Streaking, Torch-Carrying Hawaiian

Hillary Clinton was posing for photos with Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang after their recent meeting in Honolulu when someone decided to crash that party.

The Secretary of State must have caught it out of the corner of her eye, because a second or two after the fact, she realized what happened and seriously cracked up.

A random, scantily-clad Hawaiian dude running around with a flaming torch while you’re trying to pose with a dignitary will have that effect. Pretty funny stuff:

Herman Cain Jokes About Anita Hill on Camera

Presidential hopeful Herman Cain, already facing allegations of sexual harassment from four women, was caught joking about Anita Hill during a campaign stop this week.

A college professor, Hill infamously became the poster woman for such claims when she made them 20 years ago about Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

A Fox News camera caught Cain laughing about Hill during a campaign visit to Kalamazoo, Mich., Thursday, when a supporter brought up the professor’s name.

“You hear the latest news today? Anita Hill is going to come …” a man told Cain. “Is she going to endorse me?” Cain joked, as he and the crowd laughed heartily …

Herman Cain insisted later that he wasn’t trying to insult Hill.

“We walked into this room and … one of my supporters said, ‘Anita Hill was trying to contact you’ and my response was, ‘Is she going to endorse me?'” he said.

“He said it in a humorous way. I gave a humorous response.”

The Republican continues to fend off allegations that he sexually harassed four women when he was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

Karen Kraushaar allegedly received a settlement to leave the group along with another woman. Sharon Bialek alleges Cain tried to grope her at a later date.

Joking about Hill, while essentially harmless, is not likely to help Cain, who some say has been less than forthcoming, shake the story that has dogged him for weeks.

How will the sexual harassment allegations impact Cain?

Karen Kraushaar Becomes Second Herman Cain Accuser to Go Public

Karen Kraushaar was sexually harassed by Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain in the 1990s and left her job because of it, she said yesterday.

The became the second woman to come forward and put a name and face behind accusations that Cain sexually harassed her when she worked for him.

Karen Kraushaar, now a spokeswoman for the Inspector General’s Office in the U.S Treasury Department and a former journalist, is pictured below:

Karen Kraushaar Picture

Kraushaar was one of the two women who received a financial settlement of about $45,000 after accusing Cain of sexual harassment in the 1990s. She worked at the National Restaurant Association while Cain headed the trade group.

Sharon Bialek, who went public earlier, offered many more details.

“She is a professional who had to leave her job because of Herman Cain. It is quite simple,” a former National Restaurant Association employee said of Kraushaar.

The latest Herman Cain accuser told the N.Y. Times she hoped she and other accusers might hold a joint press conference “where all of the women would be together with our attorneys and all of this evidence would be considered together.”

“These allegations can be considered together as a body of evidence.”

Cain said Kraushaar’s allegations were the only ones he remembered, but that they – like the rest of the salacious claims made against him – are not credible.

Will sexual harassment allegations derail the Cain Train?

Ashley Madison Wants David Boreanaz as Celebrity Affair Spokesman

David Boreanaz, star of Bones, cheated on his wife. More than once.

He’s not alone there, but is fairly unique in that he not only admitted his infidelity, but claimed in a recent interview that it strengthened his marriage to Jaime Bergman.

While he likely meant that the couple is stronger than ever nowadays, it was probably not meant to come off as an endorsement of cheating on her in the first place.

That’s why we somehow doubt he accepts the offer of $250,000 put forth by pro-adultery website Ashley Madison to be their new celebrity spokesman. Just a hunch.

Rachel Uchitel

David Boreanaz is a famous cheater. But don’t expect him to advocate for it.

THG NOTE: Rachel Uchitel and David Boreanaz did bone (pardon the expression), but that is not the affair he admitted to last year. That was with an unknown woman he accused of attempting to extort him following his infidelity.

The company’s shameless, CEO, Noel Biderman said this: “We feel Mr. Boreanaz would be the perfect fit for our brand as he has given a voice to something we have been saying for years: People enter into affairs to save their marriage.”

“Mr. Boreanaz had the courage to admit that.”

“The rest of the cheaters in Hollywood – there is no shortage on Ashley Madison, but we are not naming names might also find this kind of confession liberating.”

Right. We’re sure that’s exactly what he had in mind.
