Scotty McCreery Robbed at Gunpoint: Get the Details

Scotty McCreery just experienced what he described on Twitter as the “worst morning of his life.”

And for a very understandable reason.

The winner of American Idol Season 10 and his roommates at North Carolina State University were victims of a home invasion inside their off-campus residence in Raleigh.

Scotty McCreery with a Guitar

According to local TV station WTVD, the 20-year old was actually ordered to the ground by armed suspects who took cash, wallets and electronics. They told McCreery and his friends to face down and count to 100 as they made their escape.

No one was injured in the incident.

“Yes, it was definitely very scary,” Scotty wrote on Facebook this afternoon. “Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case. I will share more when the time is right, but as of now we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation.

“Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support. A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case.”

Raleigh police have released a 911 call from someone at McCreery’s house who says: “They took everything we have. They were like ‘Get down. Get on the floor and give us everything you got.'”

Frightening stuff indeed. We’re glad everyone is okay.

All hail queen Kelly! The original AI winner has a powerhouse voice and hits galore.

Should Fox Cancel American Idol?

The ratings for American Idol were way down this season, about 32 percent lower than those of season 10.

The winners on American Idol all appear to be from the same mold, as Phillip Phillips follows in the Caucasian, guitar-playing footsteps of Lee DeWyze, Kris Allen, David Cook (pictured) and Scotty McCreery.

So, it must be asked: is it actually time to cancel American Idol?

David Cook on American Idol

Yes, Allen told TMZ this week. He believes the plug should be pulled on a competition that has clearly grown tiresome on the eyes of viewers.

But another former winner disagrees.

American Idol is a juggernaut,” Taylor Hicks told TMZ in response to Allen. Because of my American Idol win, I am able to do the thing that I love most, which is to be an entertainer… the fact that I am headlining Vegas six years after auditioning there and then ultimately winning AI is testament to the incredible platform the show continues to provide for me.”

What do YOU think? Should American Idol get the axe?

And The Winner Of The American Idol Is…..

Warning, if you haven’t watched Idol yet you might not want to keep reading!  Tonight, Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner of the 11th season of American Idol, beating out Jessica Sanchez to take home the crown.

In a star studded finale that saw past Idol winners and contestants  including Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Scotty McCreery return, Phillips was absent from most of the show save for a final duet with finalist Sanchez, making  me wonder if it had anything to do with his rumoured health issues.  Even judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler took to the stage to perform for the crowd.

I’ll admit that I really didn’t watch American Idol this entire season but after watching Phillip Phillips be overcome with emotion after his win while singing his first single, Home, I instantly became a fan.  Did your favourite win tonight?

Katy Perry in Teen Vogue: Blue About Fame

Teen Vogue features the lovely Katy Perry on its new cover. The pop superstar says she has already tired of being famous … but it’s just the price of creating.

A heavy price, no doubt. The 27-year-old despises the massive fame that her success has brought her, calling it “disgusting by-product” of what she does.

The singer has endured heavy scrutiny after the end of her marriage to Russell Brand, and admits she’s sick of critics commenting on her personal life.

Katy Perry in Teen Vogue

She tells Teen Vogue, “I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do.”

“It’s a delicate creature – a wild animal of sorts. It can love you, and then it can attack you. But really, I stopped focusing on what other people think a while ago.”

“If you try to be everything to everyone, you’ll only end up completely confused.”

Perry admits she wants to be “as approachable and relatable as possible,” but can’t understand why some devotees break down in tears when they meet her.

She says, “When I meet fans and they’re crying, I’ll say, ‘Calm down, there’s nothing to cry about. I’m not going to bite or attack or grant you three wishes.”

“Let’s just hang out and have a good time.’”

Indeed. And enjoy these Katy Perry pics:

Nike NFL Uniforms: Hit or Miss?

The world of fashion met the world of professional sports in Brooklyn today, as some of the NFL’s biggest stars gathered with representatives from Nike and Commissioner Roger Goodell to unveil new uniforms for the league.

Dubbed the Nike Elite 51, the shirts and pants are meant to be more elastic and lighter. As you can see by this Chicago Bears mockup, the actual look varies little:

New NFL Uniform

“The performance is so important for the athletes,” Goodell said. “What we tried to do is innovate. Even if the look doesn’t change, there’s innovation… There’ll be more to come.”

Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens, Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers and Wes Welker of the New England Patriots were among the stars who modeled the new uniforms on stage.

Said Super Bowl hero Victor Cruz of the Super Bowl of the champion New York Giants:

“They’re tight. You can’t get pulled or snagged on. That’s the biggest thing for me: making sure that I’m sleek and I’m fast and I can’t be grabbed or held.”

Heejun Han on American Idol Elimination: Fair and Square!

It doesn’t sound like Heejun Han will be pulling an Erika Van Pelt.

The season 11 finalist was eliminated from American Idol last night, but while Van Pelt has expressed disdain for the judges’ decision NOT to save her – saying in an interview that she feels shafted – Han spoke to reporters this morning and sounded at peace with the process.

“It was way too early to use their card,” he said of the single veto permitted by the panel of three. “I’m pretty sure they’re saving it for some other people. It was fair and square.”

Han also said that performing “My Life” was his favorite moment during the run, even if Steven Tyler wasn’t a fan of the comical rendition.

“We had our different perspectives,” he said of his mini clash with the rocker. “I was trying to give a fun time to America because I thought it would be entertaining and fun. Maybe he took it wrong, but I can’t please everyone.”

What does Han see next for himself? Randy Jackson joked he should star in his own sitcom, an idea Heejan is running with:

“It should be an Asian guy who’s trying to go out with really pretty blonde girl. [Laughs.] Of course, I’m not going to be picky about anything. I really want to make something out of this.”

And what advice does he have for future hopefuls?

“It’s The Hunger Games, but it’s not killing each other. Why do you always have to be so serious when only one person is going to survive? You might as well have fun and have a thick skin and stay true to yourself.”

American Idol Results: Who Got Booted?

They all chose singles by their personal idols this week, but for one member of the American Idol top 9, that role model proved to be unlucky tonight.

Whose name was called at the conclusion of the latest results show? Did the judges use the power of their save to keep this individual around? You’re seconds away from the answer…

Idol Top 9

Following performances by Nicki Minaj and Scotty McCreery, Hollie Cavanagh, Sklyar Laine and Heejan Han stood in the bottom three. Hollie was the first to be told she was safe, leading to the announcement moments later that Han would be going home.

He once again belted out “A Song For You” in an attempt to be rescued by the panel, but – despite tears from Jennifer Lopez – it was not meant to be. Only eight finalists remain.

Did Han deserve to go home this week?
