Should Fox Cancel American Idol?

The ratings for American Idol were way down this season, about 32 percent lower than those of season 10.

The winners on American Idol all appear to be from the same mold, as Phillip Phillips follows in the Caucasian, guitar-playing footsteps of Lee DeWyze, Kris Allen, David Cook (pictured) and Scotty McCreery.

So, it must be asked: is it actually time to cancel American Idol?

Yes, Allen told TMZ this week. He believes the plug should be pulled on a competition that has clearly grown tiresome on the eyes of viewers.

But another former winner disagrees.

American Idol is a juggernaut,”

And The Winner Of The American Idol Is…..

Warning, if you haven’t watched Idol yet you might not want to keep reading!  Tonight, Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner of the 11th season of American Idol, beating out Jessica Sanchez to take home the crown.

In a star studded finale that saw past Idol winners and contestants  including Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Scotty McCreery return, Phillips was absent from most of the show save for a final duet with finalist Sanchez, making  me wonder if it had anything to do with his rumoured health issues.  Even judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler took to the stage to perform for

Katy Perry in Teen Vogue: Blue About Fame

Teen Vogue features the lovely Katy Perry on its new cover. The pop superstar says she has already tired of being famous … but it’s just the price of creating.

A heavy price, no doubt. The 27-year-old despises the massive fame that her success has brought her, calling it “disgusting by-product” of what she does.

The singer has endured heavy scrutiny after the end of her marriage to Russell Brand, and admits she’s sick of critics commenting on her personal life.

She tells Teen Vogue, “I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting

Nike NFL Uniforms: Hit or Miss?

The world of fashion met the world of professional sports in Brooklyn today, as some of the NFL’s biggest stars gathered with representatives from Nike and Commissioner Roger Goodell to unveil new uniforms for the league.

Dubbed the Nike Elite 51, the shirts and pants are meant to be more elastic and lighter. As you can see by this Chicago Bears mockup, the actual look varies little:

“The performance is so important for the athletes,” Goodell said. “What we tried to do is innovate. Even if the look doesn’t change, there’s innovation… There’ll be more to come.”

Heejun Han on American Idol Elimination: Fair and Square!

It doesn’t sound like Heejun Han will be pulling an Erika Van Pelt.

The season 11 finalist was eliminated from American Idol last night, but while Van Pelt has expressed disdain for the judges’ decision NOT to save her – saying in an interview that she feels shafted – Han spoke to reporters this morning and sounded at peace with the process.

“It was way too early to use their card,” he said of the single veto permitted by the panel of three. “I’m pretty sure they’re saving it for some other people. It was fair and square.”

American Idol Results: Who Got Booted?

They all chose singles by their personal idols this week, but for one member of the American Idol top 9, that role model proved to be unlucky tonight.

Whose name was called at the conclusion of the latest results show? Did the judges use the power of their save to keep this individual around? You’re seconds away from the answer…

Following performances by Nicki Minaj and Scotty McCreery, Hollie Cavanagh, Sklyar Laine and Heejan Han stood in the bottom three. Hollie was the first to be told she was safe, leading to the announcement moments later that Han would be going home.

American Idol Touts Past Success, Slams The Voice?

Did American Idol just take a jab at The Voice?

In an ad that aired last night, the Fox series hypes this evening’s two-hour episode by recounting its past success stories, which includes nine Grammy Awards, one Oscar and artists such as Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Scotty McCreery and Jennifer Hudson.

The Voice, of course, has only been on for one season, but finalists Javier Colon and Dia Frampton haven’t left much of an impression on the music world.

Watch the promo now and decide: Cheap shot? Desperate shot? Or a perfectly fair salvo to fire off
