Will a woman finally break the hold men have had over American Idol over the past few seasons?

If so, it will come down to one of these 10 women, all of whom have advanced to the Season 12 semifinals.

To join the five women from last night, as American Idol cut five male contestants tonight and moved five more on to the semifinals.

And then there were the final 40.

American Idol chopped eight men tonight, narrowing its number of males down to 20. But the evening for the most part once again belonged to the fairer gender, as many females took to the stage and only 20 were left standing by the end of the hour.

American Idol Finalists Defend Show Against Allegations of Racism

A quartet of former finalists have come out and vehemently denies charges that American Idol is racist.

Melinda Doolittle (Season 6), Vonzell Solomon (Season 4), Taylor Hicks (Season 5) and Casey Abrams (Season 10) all spoke to TMZ this week and defended the program against charges from nine other finalists that claim Idol shows a racial bias in disqualifying contestants.

American Idol Ratings Drop; Nicki/Mariah Feud to Blame?

Much to the chagrin of Fox, it turns out viewers might not want to watch two multi-millionaire recording superstars snipe at each other for two hours straight.

Amazing, right?

But the ratings for last night’s American Idol premiere fell by 19 percent in comparison to the Season 11 opener, as 17.8 million households tuned in to see Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey go at it.

And to watch Ashlee Feliciano, Tenna Torres and other audition, we suppose.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as Golden Globe Hosts: Grade ‘Em!

Girls, Homeland and Argo dominated.

Jodie Foster rambled.

And a whole lot of cleavage was flashed.

But the 2013 Golden Globes will likely be best remembered for the two funny woman who emceed the event, as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler simply owned the stage last night.

“Kathryn Bigelow’s nominated tonight,” Poehler said during the monologue. “I haven’t really been following the controversy over Zero Dark Thirty, but when it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron.”
