Director Joe Wright’s reimagining of the beloved childhood story Peter Pan (titled simply Pan) is definitely shaping up to be an interesting movie.
While it’s been set in stone for a while that Garrett Hedlund will be playing Captain Hook and that Hugh Jackman will be playing Blackbeard, we’ve now also got word on who will be playing Tiger Lily. It’s none other than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – Rooney Mara. Yes, you read that right.
No word yet on who will be cast as Peter Pan, although sources are saying that it will definitely be a child, rather than a grown More >
Here are some photos of Rooney Mara in Dior at the Ain’t Them Bodies Saints premiere. I think this was a premiere just in general, not in competition for the Palme, either that or it’s in competition for Un Certain Regarde. I don’t know. Rooney’s Dior ensemble is a variation on Jennifer Lawrence’s black-and-white premiere dress, did you know that? I think J-Law wore it better. I just don’t get what Rooney is trying to achieve with her fashion. Is she trying to show us that she’s so avant-garde and special that she can wear fug clothing and pull it off? Or does she honestly think sheMore >
Here are some photos from last night’s NYC premiere of Side Effects, that Steven Soderbergh film which looks surprisingly good. I’m not sure if the film is actually supposed to be a suspense/thriller (as opposed to a straight drama), but that’s the way the commercials make it seem, and I’m up for it. Also surprising: everybody looked pretty good at the premiere. I think Catherine Zeta Jones looked the best – she wore this Michael Kors gown which looks stunning on her. Zeta killed it!
Rooney Mara, the controversial “star” of the film (Soderbergh wanted Blake Lively originally), woreMore >
Does anyone else feel kind of bad for Kate Mara? She’s Rooney Mara’s older sister (older by two years) and it wasn’t that long ago that Kate Mara was the sister posed for a big Hollywood breakout. Kate was the one working consistently in films and television, and she had more name recognition. Then Rooney scored a small part in The Social Network, which led to the role of a lifetime as Lisbeth Salander in the American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which led to magazine covers and fame and money and an Oscar nomination and now people are like “Kate who?”
So these are newMore >
Jude Law was looking dapper in New York City last night! I’m glad the beard he had for a while is gone. The rugged look really doesn’t work for Jude. He cleaned up nicely for his Q&A for his new movie, ‘Side Effects.’ Here’s what the movie is about:
Emily and Martin are a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily’s psychiatrist – intended to treat anxiety – has unexpected side effects.
Channing Tatum and ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ star Rooney Mara also star in the movie. I’m interested in seeing this one. Does it sound good to you?Visit the More >
Sundance may be picking up steam, but the Village at the Lift in Park City, Utah, has come to a close. For the eleventh year running, the Village at the Lift has been proved, yet again, to be the hotspot for anyone attending the film festival. From breakfasts and lunches at the Stella Artois Cafe featuring food from Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s LA restaurants, Animal, to the Samsung Galaxy Lounge showcasing their newest devices, an exclusive UGG Australia lounge for guests to relax and recharge in preparation for portrait appointments at the Wire Image Studio, a New Era Chalet featuringMore >
It’s that time of year again, when Hollywood treks out to the mountains in Salt Lake City for Sundance! Fandango has helpfully compiled a list of the top 10 movies that have the most buzz going into the festival.
1. ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’: starring Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster; David Lowery (Director)
The Buzz: You don’t get a more intense trio than this, and that’s especially true when you put them in a story about an outlaw (Affleck) who escapes from prison in order to reunite with his wife (Mara) and the baby he never knew. We expect lots of gritty Texas flavor and moreMore >
After her Oscar campaign for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was over, I’ve grown to like Rooney Mara a little bit more. It wasn’t even the Oscar campaign per se… because Rooney didn’t really “campaign” and her victory was just getting a nomination last year. No, Rooney rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when she began promoting GWTDT by aloof-ing all over the place and bad-mouthing all of the early TV shows and dumb horror movies that paved her way into the Hollywood world. She just seemed to lack grace and humility, and she seemed pissed off that everything wasn’t handed to her rightMore >
To celebrate W Magazine’s 40th anniversary (“Meh!” says nearly everyone), they decided to do four different covers featuring four different “hot” young actresses representing every decade of W’s 40 years. This Scarlett Johansson cover – representing the 1990s – is getting a lot of attention, mostly because of the wig, I suppose. I hate to admit it, but I do remember when this whole look was in style. RIOT GRRRL! Ani DiFranco! Linda Perry! Etc! You know who I idolized in the 90s? I’ve said it before – Winona Ryder. She was my beauty/body/fashion/career/coolness icon/touchstone.More >
